During Grammy Awards was a moment of honoring Louis Vuitton designer and founder of Off-White Virgil Abloh who passed away in 2021 due to cancer. But seems that this moment wasn’t prepared well from Recording Academy, which organizes Grammy.
The designer was named as the “hip hop fashion designer”, this caused dissatisfaction and to much critics in social media against Grammy organization.
“Virgil Abloh was the artistic director of menswear in Louis Vuitton and founded a fashion house in Milan, the “Watching the Throne” podcast posted.
But they weren’t the only ones, some others added that despites the fact the Abloh worked with hip-hop artists such as Kanye West the description did not include his career. Abloh except Louis Vuitton and the Italian luxury brand Off-White, Abloh worked also with Fendi and Nike.
Also on Twitter were to many comments: “How was this description approved by so many people?”. Some others expressed that Grammy has shown “disrespect”.
And what presents him in the best way possible are his creation, which were not missing even in Grammys, the world stars of K-Pop, the BTS sensation, arrived dressed in Louis Vuitton, Abloh’s latest creations.
Getting back to what Virgil Abloh was, we have to mention that he was DJ and entrepreneur. He was the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection from March 2018 until his death in November 2021. Abloh was also the CEO of the Milan-based label, Off -White, a fashion house he founded in 2012.
His experience in architecture helped Abloh enter the world of fashion through street fashion. In 2009, he conducted an internship at Fendi with Kanye West. But this collaboration did not stop there, because after that he started founding Off-White.
Being named as “hip-hop fashion designer” minimizes his career, where we have to mention that in 2018, was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 people most influential in the world.
