For the first time since the Queen’s passing, Prince William, who has already assumed the title of Prince of Wales, has responded.
“On Thursday, the world lost an extraordinary leader,” he began the statement, adding that the queen’s devotion to her country was absolute.
“I, however, lost my grandmother. And while I grieve her loss, I also feel incredibly grateful. I have had the benefit of The Queen’s wisdom and reassurance into my fifth decade.”
My wife and I have been under her supervision and support for over 20 years. My kids have spent the holidays with him and made memories that they will remember forever.
“She was by my side at my happiest moments. And she was by my side during the saddest days of my life,” he wrote. “I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real.”
William quoted his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, and said: “My grandmother said that pain is the price we pay for love. All the grief we will feel in the coming weeks will be a testament to the love we had for our extraordinary Queen.” .
The statement closed with a promise that the Prince of Wales would support his father on his journey.”I will honour her memory by supporting my father, the King, in every way I can,” the prince concluded.
